Comprehensive Check Up

At The Smile Lounge we believe it is important to have a comprehensive examination at your initial appointment as well as periodic check-ups. The purpose of a recall visit is to detect signs of oral disease early, to attend to problems that need attention and to prevent future disease through subsequent follow-up visits regularly. Every patient has unique oral health needs and the optimal frequency for recall visits is patient specific. This means it depends on your individual situation and update of your medical history.

We will evaluate your oral health by collecting baseline data. Starting by examining your teeth, gums, soft tissue, palate, jaw as well as carry out oral cancer screening.
We will ask you on your initial visit to make us aware of any health conditions you have had, as current and previous health problems can affect your treatment plan.

Your teeth will be examined by checking for plaque, calculus and if required a professional clean will be carried out. This includes scaling, polishing, fluoride applications as well as oral hygiene education. A full examination will be carried out on each tooth surface to detect any caries or irregularities, existing fillings will be checked to make sure they are still functional.

We may also reccomend a full set of digital radio-graphs or digital OPG (full mouth radio-graph). This is used to assess the positioning of all your teeth as well as to detect if you have any cysts or abnormalities, as we would not be able to see these with the naked eye.
We use digital radiography as it produces less radiation than traditional methods and is almost instantaneous.
